Ride with Brad to Support Ride Hard Breathe Easy

November is national Lung Cancer Awareness Month as well as the National Hockey League's Hockey Fights Cancer Month. In order to raise funds for the Ride Hard Breathe Easy campaign to help someday find a cure for lung cancer, SAP's John Matthews has forged the Ride Hard Breathe Easy Challenge throughout the month of November.

The goal of the challenge: find riders worldwide to pedal a combined 24,901 miles (the equivalent of bicycling around the world) and to raise $100,000 for the cause. All miles that participants ride, whether on the road, on a stationary bike or even in a spinning class, count toward toward the goal.

Participants need only to have or sign up for an account at www.strava.com, sign up for the Ride Hard Breathe Easy Club, and record their miles. Road miles are tracked automatically on the Strava app, while indoor miles can be manually entered.
A lifelong Flyers fan and longtime friend of the Flyers Alumni Association, John Matthews has partnered with Flyers Alumni president Brad Marsh for a special program within the Challenge: "Ride with Brad."
For every 50 miles a participant rides, he or she will receive an entry chip. At the end of the month, there will be  a random drawing for prizes ranging from Flyers' tickets to an opportunity to meet Brad. The more entry chips, the greater the chance to win.
"Brad has been in our corner from the get-go," Matthews said. "Last year, I rode 3,500 miles from the SAP offices [in the Philadelphia suburbs] to the Golden Gate Bridge. Brad was there to see our group off on the first day of the ride, and he presented me with a Flyers cycling jersey. When I told him about our new ride-around-the-world challenge and fundraising goal, he was immediately aboard to help us out."
Added Marsh, "I ride five days a week, and that's how I connected with John. Ride Hard Breathe Easy is a great program that raises money to fight one of the most common and aggressive forms of cancer. I'm just glad to help out in whatever way I can. Hopefully, Ride with Brad can help boost the number of participating Flyers fans and the boost the number of total miles on top of my own miles."
As a special added incentive for Ride with Brad participants to maximize their miles, Marsh has created the "Beat Brad Challenge": for all riders who log more miles than Marsh this November will be entered into a drawing to receive a Flyers jersey in addition to the primary drawing. (Note: if no one surpasses Brad's total, the Flyers jersey will be added to the other drawing as a separate prize).
Donations to Ride Hard, Breathe Easy can be made at www.rhbe.org in any amount and to a person, team or as a general donation. For more information on participating as a rider or donating, visit https://ridehardbreatheeasy.com.
